Since the nineteenth century international artists have been traveling to Bermuda to capture the beautiful scenery of the territory on canvas. Today Bermuda also has a growing population of local artists who are continuously inspired by their magnificent surroundings.
The Bermuda National Gallery in the capital Hamilton is the home of the national art collection, featuring the best of local art as well as many pieces by international artists. Every two years it hosts the Bacardi Limited Biennial in which the work of Bermudian artists is highlighted.
The Bermuda Society of Arts hosts numerous exhibitions throughout the year for amateur as well as professional artists, and visitors can take the opportunity to buy their favourite pieces.
A number of private galleries showcase the diversity of media in the arts which vary from African sculpture, lithographic prints, steel sculpture and photography, to paintings in oils, watercolours, pastels and acrylics.
