Bermuda’s musical heritage represents the influences of those who have settled on its shores. From its British ancestry comes bagpipe music, the music of the Irish and the Scots. From the Caribbean come the music of the steelpan, which originated in Trinidad, and the rhythm of the calypso, which provides an outlet for social issues, or just an excuse to party and have a good time.
Each year in October the territory hosts the Bermuda Music Festival which celebrates various genres of music including soul, jazz, and steelpan, and features local and international exponents of these forms. The Bermuda Festival of Performing Arts captivates you with an array of performances of classical music, drama and dance performances.
For your average night out on the town, check out the pubs and bars for live performances, or take a boat ride to Hawkins Island in the middle of the Great Sound for the ultimate carnival party experience.
